Double Pendulum

A classic example of a chaotic system

The double pendulum is two pendulums linked end to end. The equations are short and completely deterministic, yet the motion is chaotic: change the starting angle by a tenth of a degree and the two paths have nothing in common a few seconds later.

What you can do

  • Adjust the initial angles and lengths
  • Change the masses and gravity
  • Watch the same equations diverge
  • See the trajectory and the energy
  • Read the model written in Reineur Solver
t = 0.00 s
